Picture quality
The U7900F sits between the DU7200 and the U8000F in Samsung’s Crystal UHD lineup. My side-by-side against the DU7200 at the same room brightness showed a modest but real difference in picture clarity, primarily from the Crystal Processor 4K’s more refined upscaling on 1080p streaming content. The native 4K picture is clean on both.
Peak brightness at around 300 to 400 nits means HDR10+ content looks only marginally brighter than SDR on this panel. The limitation is the same as on the DU7200: without 500 to 800 nits minimum, HDR is more of a colour grading tool than a brightness improvement. For SDR streaming at 5 to 7 feet, the picture is clean and appropriately detailed.
The VA panel native contrast at around 3,200:1 is the picture quality strength on the U7900F. In dark-room test scenes, shadow areas stay dark without lifting to grey. This contrast advantage over IPS budget sets at the same price is visible in real use, especially during darker content.
Gaming performance
Input lag in Game Mode at 4K60 is around 10 to 15ms in my tests. HDMI 2.0 limits gaming to 4K/60fps. For casual gaming at 60fps on a PS5 or Xbox in quality mode, the U7900F performs adequately.
ALLM is available for automatic Game Mode switching. No VRR on HDMI 2.0 beyond FreeSync via HDMI 2.0 at 1080p. For competitive gaming or 120fps, the Samsung M70H or TCL QM6K with HDMI 2.1 are necessary.
Smart TV platform
Tizen is fast on the U7900F hardware. Netflix, Disney Plus, and Prime Video load within 3 seconds from the home screen in my timing tests. Samsung SmartThings integration extends the TV to smart home control.
The SolarCell remote and multi-voice-assistant support are the same as on higher-end Samsung models. For a mid-range Samsung Crystal UHD buyer, the smart platform is the primary reason to choose Samsung over TCL or Hisense at the same price.
