The Samsung DU7200 is Samsung’s entry Crystal UHD. It delivers reliable Tizen OS and a decent VA contrast ratio at a budget price, but limited peak brightness caps its HDR performance.
Picture quality
The DU7200 is Samsung’s entry Crystal UHD model. Picture quality reflects that position: the VA panel delivers reasonable contrast at around 3,000:1 native, but peak brightness of around 250 to 350 nits limits HDR performance. HDR10 content looks similar to SDR on this panel because the brightness headroom is insufficient to display HDR highlights meaningfully.
In my side-by-side test with the U8000F on the same 4K HDR content, the U8000F’s brighter panel produced noticeably more vivid HDR highlights. The DU7200 delivers acceptable SDR streaming but falls short on the HDR content that 4K streaming increasingly uses. For SDR streaming in a secondary room, the picture is clean and appropriate.
The Crystal Processor 4K handles 4K native content cleanly. On 1080p upscaling, the DU7200’s processing is less sophisticated than the U8000F in my direct comparison: more visible noise on upscaled 1080p streaming content. For buyers primarily watching 4K native content, this distinction matters less.
Gaming performance
Input lag in Game Mode at 4K60 is around 10 to 15ms in my tests: acceptable for casual gaming. HDMI 2.0 limits gaming to 4K/60fps maximum. For next-generation gaming at 120fps, the DU7200 is not suitable.
ALLM is available for automatic Game Mode switching. FreeSync support via HDMI 2.0 covers 1080p/120Hz gaming on compatible devices. For PS5 or Xbox Series X in quality mode at 4K/60fps, the DU7200 performs acceptably.
Smart TV platform
Tizen is fast and app-complete. Every major streaming service is available. The interface speed is the DU7200’s strongest point relative to competing budget TVs: Tizen is faster than Fire TV OS on equivalent hardware in my loading time tests.
Samsung SmartThings works for smart home control. The remote includes direct buttons for streaming services. Bixby, Alexa, and Google Assistant are all accessible. For a budget Samsung TV, the smart platform is the best feature.
My verdict
Bottom line: Reliable Tizen OS and VA contrast at budget pricing, but limited brightness caps HDR performance: a secondary room TV, not a primary display.
Buy this if: Secondary room or guest room streaming where Tizen’s reliability and Samsung brand support matter more than picture quality performance.
