Our testing methodology

Every review on this site is based on hands-on testing with the physical product, not a spec sheet summary. Each TV spends a minimum of two weeks in our test environment before the review is published.

Picture quality testing covers five dimensions: contrast and black level, peak SDR brightness, peak HDR brightness, color accuracy against DCI-P3 and sRGB targets, and screen uniformity. We test with film content (4K Blu-ray and streaming), live sports broadcasts, and gaming at 60Hz and 120Hz where applicable.

Gaming testing includes input lag measurement using a Leo Bodnar lag tester with Game Mode enabled and disabled, VRR support verification, and HDMI 2.1 bandwidth confirmation where relevant.

Frequently asked questions

How do you test 4K TVs?

Each TV is tested hands-on for a minimum of two weeks. Testing covers picture quality (contrast, brightness, color accuracy, uniformity), gaming performance (input lag measurement, VRR verification), and the smart platform experience. We use 4K Blu-ray, streaming services, and gaming at both 60Hz and 120Hz as content sources.

Are your TV reviews paid for by manufacturers?

No. Reviews are editorially independent. We earn affiliate commissions when readers click links and make purchases, but commission rates do not influence our scores or recommendations. We publish negative findings when the testing shows them.

How often are reviews updated?

Reviews are updated when a significant firmware update changes picture quality or features, when new comparable models launch that affect a recommendation, or when pricing changes substantially. The Last Updated date on each review indicates the most recent revision.
